Seeing the title, you may ask yourself how the heck can I do all three of those things, save money, make electricity and save the planet? I’m just one person, or we’re just one family. How is that possible? If you continue to read this article, you will find out that it isn’t that hard to do.
Making your own electricity is not as far fetched as it used to be. The costs were very high, and prohibited us homeowners from even thinking about things like solar panels, wind turbines, and other forms of renewable energy. Would you be surprised to learn that 93.9% of all energy produced here in the United States is NOT renewable? I know I was! The top 5 energy sources we consume are petroleum 38.1%, coal 23.2%, natural gas 22.9%, uranium 8.1%, and propane 1.7%, none of which are renewable.
Solar and wind power are the best choices for home use, and they only account for 0.2% that we currently consume. There are a number of options for using these 2 methods, but most are designed for commercial use, and cost thousands of dollars for one unit, not including installation. Most of us are not aware of the benefits of generating renewable energy ourselves, and don’t know how easy it is to do this.
We can save a lot of money by using solar or wind power in our homes. In some cases electricity bills can be eliminated all together, without sacrificing anything we do in our normal day to day lives. Solar panels and wind generators can be built cheaply enough, and easily enough to make it more than worthwhile to power our homes with them, saving hundreds, even thousands of dollars in electricity costs in the course of one year.
When we choose to use renewable power sources like solar power and wind power, we can help save our planet by reducing the emissions we spew into our air. We wouldn’t need to do as much mining and drilling in harder to reach areas. Less oil spills, no more nuclear power plants, and cleaner air would all be beneficial side effects if more of us would do our part by building our own solar panels, and wind generators.
I hope my article has shown it is not as impossible as you may of thought to make a little electricity, save a lot of money, and help save our planet. There are kits and plans available to build low cost solar panels and wind generators that are efficient, and easy to make.
